About this opportunity
North Shields Cultural Quarter is commissioning artworks for the LOWE! event in March 2027, exploring themes of illumination, light, storytelling, and participation. The program seeks site-responsive proposals from emerging and established artists, with a focus on community engagement and underrepresented voices. Three tiers of commissions are available: £6000, £3000, and £1000.
Who can apply
- Emerging artists, artists testing new ideas, practitioners interested in community-led approaches.
- Particularly interested in proposals that engage with the social, cultural, architectural or historical character of North Shields and that create meaningful opportunities for public engagement.
- Encourages applications from disabled artists, D/deaf artists, neurodivergent artists, LGBTQ+ artists, working-class artists, artists from racially and ethnically marginalised communities, and artists who experience barriers to participation.
